1D are surprised by their American success

1D success probably came as a surprise to many in the USA music industry too.  1D is a classic example of the power of social media.  Thanks Youtube and Twitter.

We won't know the final number until next Wednesday but the early estimate are in:

From HITSDAILYDOUBLE:  190,000 to 210,000  (good enough for #1 on Billboard Album 200)

From Billboard estimate:  160,000 - 180,000 (probably good enough for #1, though Adele 21 could pose a challenge).

We will find out for sure in about 6 days.

More than 3,000 Fans showed up for a chance to get a wristband for autograph

- First 2,000 who buy CD will also get a wristband for an autograph session with 1D on March 24.  Sadly, 1,000 came away empty handed.

One Direction's tour has been so successful that their management are considering a number of new dates with the lads as the headliners. 

"The One Direction lads are going down a storm over there so their management are looking at getting them back out there as soon as possible after their current tour finishes on Friday."

My take:

While the source for this is not always reliable, it does make sense for One Direction to have a North America Tour with them as the headliners.  The demand is there judging by all the fans that showed up to meet One Direction.  Thousands showed up at Natick Mall in Boston and thousands more in Toronto just for a chance to get a glimpse of the boys.

It's just a matter of time before 1D tour as headliners in North America.  The $64,000 question is WHEN.  It might be earlier than you think.  Sometimes this summer?

One Direction is catching up to Justin Bieber?

At a publicity appearance in Toronto, Canada, last week the management had to pull the plug halfway through an interview because of safety concerns. 

The number of fans at their MuchMusic performance even dwarfed the last appearance from Canada's own Justin Bieber.

1D: The Movie could be coming to a theater near you, according to reports from the UK.  Harry Styles acknowledged that they have had a few offers.  Reports are short on details but it seems that a documentary-style concert type movie might be in the work.
